••• Carly & Ian ~ Engaged! •••

Wow, I can’t believe it’s almost been a month since I’ve posted anything!  To be honest, I’ve started this blog post a dozen times in my head, but for some reason just could never get myself to sit down and type it out.  September was a pretty difficult month for me.  I felt like I couldn’t ever catch up with my work after my surgery, and I was stressed and feeling pretty down.  I think it didn’t help that the surgery, and then just trying to keep up, kept me from going to the gym for awhile, which I definitely need for my mental well-being.  But, there have been other things, too.  Spencer and I (mostly Spencer) had some gear stolen from my car at a wedding.  I know, I know, I’m totally embarrassed there was gear in the car because I have never ever left our stuff in the car.  Also, we just moved into a new home while trying to sell our old house.  Fortunately, things seem to be turning around, though.  The insurance company (finally) paid out for the gear, I’m getting back into a routine at the gym, and we’re settling into our new place, which we love.  Oh, and we got an adorable orange kitten to play with our other kitty, Lono.  Fall is kind of my New Year because Noah goes back to school, it’s the end of wedding season, and it’s the time I make decisions for what I want to do differently for the next wedding season.  I shot some amazing couples this summer, and I’m very optimistic about what this next year holds.

Lono & Sphaaretel

They’re friends:)

Ok, now for Carly & Ian!  They wanted to shoot at Powell’s, which I thought was a fabulous idea!  So, I put my camera in my purse so as not to draw attention, and we snuck around having fun shooting.  I can’t wait to shoot their wedding in a couple weeks!

I picked out her book…hehe

They like sushi…and bikes

I love these shots!! I think it is cool how you can tell a story with just shooting the cover a book with your models. I also really like the ones that shows just their eyes!

••• Tip for couples – Evening light •••

I have to shoot most of my wedding day portraits in the midday sun, which is totally fine.  I can handle any kind of light, but I do especially love the golden evening light.  A few weeks ago, at Elsa & Ben’s wedding at Kruger’s Farm, I stole them away for about 5 minutes to get a few portraits just before sunset.  The time of day when the portraits take place doesn’t cross many couple’s minds, and I don’t expect it to, but stepping out from the reception and taking a minute to enjoy each other alone, is something I definitely recommend.

And, just cuz I love this one from Hillary & Scott’s wedding last year…
