-do you shoot digital of film?
Jessica started shooting weddings with film, but we now shoot all digital.
-what kind of equipment do you use?
We use big fancy Canon cameras and lenses.
-how long have you been shooting weddings?
Jessica started shooting weddings in 2004, and Spencer in 2007.
-how would you describe your shooting style?
Hopefully the online gallery will give you a good idea about our style, but I would describe my style as fine art lifestyle photography. It’s photojournalism with some fine art mixed in. I enjoy the organic, natural look of photojournalism, but also love to be able to create intimate and dramatic art by occasionally having control over the subjects. Spencer describes his style as ‘bodacious’. I’m not sure what that means.
-we want you to shoot our wedding, how do we book you?
Ah, our favorite question! Once you tell us you would like to book, we will hold the date for 5 days while we wait for the contract and retainer to come in. The retainer to book a date is half the total balance (unless you book the largest package, then it’s $2000). The other half is due 4 weeks before your wedding. Because of the number of dates floating around in our heads, we do not even write down what dates we’ve gotten inquiries for, and we book on a first come, first serve basis.
-how long after the wedding until we can see our pictures?
The images will be available on the online gallery 2 to 3 weeks after the wedding.
-do you give out the high resolution images, and how many images will I get?
Yes, you will receive the edited high resolution files in both color and B&W. The number of images you receive depends on so many factors, but it’s usually around 50-100 per hour.
-do you keep the copyright to the images?
We reserve the right to use the images for our portfolio, advertisements, and exhibitions, etc. But the client may print the images for limited personal use.
-so, that means I get to print pictures for myself anytime I want?
Yes, but we ask that you have them printed at a professional lab. A great, inexpensive lab we recommend is www.mpix.com.
-say, jess, why did you get a tattoo?
I wanted to prove I was tougher than my husband.
-what is a “fine art” image, and how many are there per wedding?
“Fine Art” refers to any image we have manipulated in Photoshop for more than just accuracy. This is the use of textures, effects, and/or color manipulation to turn your image into something more at home in an art gallery than a scrap book. How many we do depends on the size of the shoot, how inspiring the locale, and what requests are made.
-do you have a studio?
Yes! However, we only shoot newborns, small children and models in the studio. Everything else is shot on location.
-do you have liability insurance?
Yes, for both on location, and in the studio.
-do you keep back ups of our shoot? What if I lose our digital copies?
We will never delete a wedding or portrait session, but once the high resolution images
have been delivered, we cannot guarantee we will have them. As soon as
you receive your discs, please be sure and back up the files on your
hard drive as well as an external hard drive, if not off-site storage. There may be a fee for replacement discs.
-do you do destination weddings?
Yes we do, and we love them! There is no extra fee for destination weddings or portrait sessions, other than our travel expenses (air fare & hotel).
-why should we do the engagement session?
The session is a great time to get to know one another better, and for you to get comfortable with our shooting style before the wedding. This is especially good for couples who are camera shy, because it’s sort of a warm up to being photographed on the day. Plus, they’re just fun!
-what is a “newlywed” session?
Newlywed sessions (also called day after sessions) are our favorite because they give us a chance to get the creative, fine art bride and groom images the busy wedding day doesn’t always allow. That way you can spend more time at the wedding with your guests, but still have the amazing, unique bride and groom shots as well. They can take place a day, week or even a month or more after your wedding.
-what is an “unbridal” session?
Unbridal sessions are our modern-day version of a bridal session. They’re fun, sassy, and definitely not your mother’s bridal portraits.
